New Center

New Center is a picturesque and pastoral community located east of downtown Sevierville and south of the Douglas Lake area.  Exhibiting primarily the rural feel that used to be typical of most all of East Tennessee, the gently rolling hills of New Center formerly were purely used for farming and that is what the community still reflects.  New Center is now however an attractive residential alternative to Sevierville proper but is best suited for primary residences as opposed to vacation rentals.  Because of the distance to the more touristy areas of Sevier County, New Center isn’t generally an area conducive to vacation rental properties.  However, if you are looking for a little slower pace more typical of other parts of East Tennessee, you’ll pay a little less and have more tranquility in New Center than you will in the better know areas in the nearer the center of Sevier county.  Some neighborhoods within this area offer scenic views of English Mountain and distant views of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park are also available from some neighborhoods.  As our MLS system does not list English Mountain as an individual area, homes there will also often be coded as being in New Center as the two communities are adjacent to each other.  English Mountain properties can be difficult to access in the winter due to the very steep road over the mountain.  For this reason English Mountain land has always sold at a significant discount to other areas around Sevierville.  In days long gone by English Mountain was an area known well for the manufacture of moonshine and some of the most remote areas of East Tennessee may still have some of that sort of commerce but even in the most distant locations it is very rare nowadays.

New Center does have at least one tourist attraction that being the Forbidden Caverns which are worth a look as well as the area’s Smoky Mountain Deer Farm and Petting Zoo which is located just outside of Sevierville just off highway 411.

New Center has its own primary school but older students will attend Sevier County High School when they reach the 9th grade.  For more information regarding Sevier County schools please click here.

As of Friday, March 23, 2018 there were 1,359 residential properties listed for sale in our Great Smoky Mountains Association of Realtors® MLS database.  The 13 residences for sale in New Center as of this review were listed at an average price of $201,531.
